Background
A two-day business mission to promote business ties between Italy and Malaysia commenced in Kuala Lumpur with the participation of 35 Italian firms and institutions from the infrastructure and transportation, energy transition, oil and gas, and advanced manufacturing industries.
This activity is in line with the Growth Diplomacy strategy of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Bilateral trade between Italy and Malaysia reached 3.4 billion euros in 2025, a 6.3 per cent increase year-on-year, reflecting steady growth in an already mature economic relationship.
Italian Ambassador to Malaysia Raffaele Langella said Malaysia serves as a strategic partner for Italy in Southeast Asia and a natural gateway for Italian companies expanding internationally. He added that the mission is designed to move beyond dialogue and actively generate investment opportunities and joint projects in infrastructure, energy transition, and advanced manufacturing.
Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Sim Tze Tzin noted that the two nations share a long heritage of maritime trade and mutual respect, and are committed to building on that foundation for modern, resilient business engagement.
On the second day, the Italian delegation will visit leading Malaysian companies operating across the four target sectors.
The business mission is jointly organised by the Italian Trade Agency, Confindustria, its regional associations from Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, and Piedmont, and the Embassy of Italy in Kuala Lumpur.
