Background

Mexico and Italy are strengthening business ties as companies and trade groups explore new opportunities under the updated European Union-Mexico Global Agreement. According to the business leaders, the new framework is enhancing the flow of trade, industrial cooperation, and attracting new investment between the two countries.

The increased corporate interest in diversification and expansion of operations and supply chains was evidenced by recent gatherings between the Mexico-Italy Chamber of Commerce and the Mexico-European Union Chamber of Commerce in Rome. The Mexican Embassy in Italy hosted talks that attracted diplomats and business officials who assessed the opportunities created by the new accord, which particularly focused on market access, value chain integration and joint venture development.

The respondents identified food production, machinery, automobile manufacturing, semi-finished goods and precious metals as industries that would experience substantial growth. These partnerships are likely to be further strengthened by a Mexico-Italy Business and Investment Forum, which will take place in November 2026.

Italian company, Zoppas Industries, celebrated 25 years of operation in San Luis Potosi, attracting executives, government officials and the Italian Ambassador to Mexico, Alessandro Modiano. The company that manufactures electric heating systems in the appliances sector, electric vehicles, and industry was listed as a model of industrial and technological collaboration between the two countries.

At the National Made in Italy Day in Mexico, business leaders highlighted Mexico’s position as a leading buyer of Italian machinery in Latin America. Ambassador Modiano said the bilateral relationship is strengthening, partly driven by the modernised EU-Mexico agreement.

Andrea Catino, Executive Director of the Mexico-Italy Chamber of Commerce, said the organisation serves as a bridge between both economies and is planning to open a Milan office to support companies exploring Mexican opportunities.
